Choptank, New York

Side of spicy potatoes along with a jumbo lump crab cake @ Choptank, a new seafood hang-out in the West Village named after the Choptank River that runs to the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland.

Listed as “spicy potato salad” on the menu, these golden starches — delicately smothered in a creamy-spicy sauce, with a parsley garnish — are more closely related to their Spanish cousins, the bravas, than anything American that I’ve ever seen. Overall a delicious surprise after a seafood feast of oysters, peel-n-eat shrimp, jonah crab claws… My boyfriend’s fingers still smell like Old Bay.
